MAKATI CITY, 30 May 2017 - CIC will conduct a one-day Gender Sensitivity Seminar to all its management and staff in line with the Philippine government’s efforts to sensitize all of its public servants, both officials, and employees, to various gender sensitivity issues.
The International Labor Organization (ILO) views the concept of gender equality as necessary; not only in enabling all men and women to have access to decent work but also in creating social and institutional change that leads to sustainable growth.
Gender equality also refers to everyone having equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities, whether or not one is born male or female.
In the workplace, gender equality includes the following:
- Equal opportunities;
- Equal treatment;
- Equal compensation for work of equal value;
- Equal access to a safe and healthy working environment;
- Equal access to social security;
- Equality in association and collective bargaining;
- Equal access to meaningful career development;
- Work-life balance; and
- Equal participation in decision-making.
Thus, gender equality is giving everyone, regardless of sex in which they were born, the freedom to develop their abilities and make choices without being limited by existing gender roles and prejudices.
The CIC will be bringing in a Gender and Development (GAD) expert from the Civil Service Commission-NCR to facilitate the one-day seminar, which will be held in CIC’s office in Legazpi Village, Makati City.
