CIC to hold forum on Credit Data and Information Sharing

MANILA, 16 November 2018 – The Credit Information Corporation (CIC),  the Philippines’ one and only central credit registry, the Policy and Economic Research Council (PERC), and Asian Business Advisory Council (ABAC), are co-organizing a forum revolving around the theme: ‘Credit Data & Information Sharing’ on  20th of November 2018 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City. 

The  forum deals with Credit Data, Data Security, Data Sharing, and Data Usability from the dimensions of regulation, security, and business usage and the impacts that the country, financing industry, and the average Filipino.

The topics are in anticipation of the roll out of the CIC’s credit information facility to institutional users and the forum looks into the future of how data can be highly secured yet highly available at the same time, and always with the intention to be beneficial to both the data subject and the government and business institutions that serve them.

To provide a practical and prospective view, CIC, PERC, and ABAC have invited experts from the Philippines and abroad, from both private and government sectors to discuss before a group policy makers and heads of various financial institutions.

The sessions are comprised of topics relating to the importance of credit information system in the Philippines, Data Security Frameworks in line with the industry-government collaboration, the essence of data collection and vitality to create a globally competitive financial data ecosystem and government interventions in promoting fair, competitive and innovative approach in the era of big data and financial technology.

With this event, CIC expects that significance of its credit information system towards Philippine credit landscape, specifically to the unbanked and underbanked. CIC’s credit information is seen to give said groups access to more credit, at lower interest rates and better credit terms, simply on the strength of their creditworthiness as reflected in their credit history.

CIC’s credit information system is also seen to give the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) more lending opportunities. MSMEs comprise 99.6% of all businesses in the Philippines and contribute make up about 60% of the country’s economy and employment.
